The aforementioned categories encompass the primary types of commercial real estate. However, numerous other commercial properties exist, developed and owned by investors. This is where the concept of “special-purpose” properties comes into play. It serves as a catch-all classification within commercial real estate.

Special-purpose properties encompass a wide array of assets, including amusement parks, bowling alleys, parking lots, stadiums, theaters, zoos, and much more. While CRE professionals continue to deepen their knowledge of each asset type over time, having a foundational understanding of the diverse landscape of commercial real estate is an excellent starting point.
